Dumb Identities: Demi

 the-asynjurs-rad-intern

Why do we only see demi-girls and demi-boys and never demi-women or demi-men…

 auntiewanda

Because the gender trend is Peter Pan Syndrome in action.

Ain't that the damn truth?

"Demi" is such an unnecessary concept. I never thought my dislike of casual sex and hookup culture was a kind of sexual orientation, for fuck's sake. Spoilers: it isn't.

Demi is one of those dumb identities proposed by Kweer theorists. Not a hypersexual hoochie mama or himbo always on the prowl for your next hook-up? You're not simply selective or anything so boring as that. You're Kweer!

I'm not "kweer." I'm not demi-anything. I'm a heterosexual female who dislikes hookup culture. If I'm going to be sexually involved with someone, it needs to be someone that I have a strong bond of trust with. At this point in my life, that's nobody on the planet.

Not being interested in sex these days doesn't make me Kweer either.

I'm still simply Super straight, and I'm good with that.

It's fine to be Super-Gay or Super-Bi too.

If you want to call yourself "demi" something, you do you. Whatever gets you through your life. I find terms like "demi" meaningless and unnecessary.

Queer and Homosexual are Not Synonymous + The Problem With "Drag Kids"

This is a response to a new post by Meghan Murphy on Feminist Current about the troubling phenomenon of "Drag Kids."

The "queering" of vulnerable young people has gotten way out of hand.
Sadly, gay and queer are synonymous in most people's minds. Which means if you criticize any aspect of Queer Culture, you are labeled a homophobe.
There's certainly nothing wrong with being homosexual. There's nothing wrong with being a boy who prefers "feminine" things, although here we are getting into the question of gendering the way a person dresses and the activities and things that they like. However, being homosexual and expressing oneself in a way deemed by society as more consistent with the opposite sex are two different things.
As a gender critical feminist, I feel that the modern insistence on rigid gender norms is setting things way, way back, and it's doing more harm than good.

Just like beauty pageants for girls, these Drag Kid pageants expose vulnerable young people to predatory behavior by adults with a predilection for sexualizing minors.

Sly's WTF Wednesday: Queering the Primary Classroom

A response to this post at Transgender Trend.

Fantastic and terrifying information.
I've always believed in trying the least drastic intervention or treatment for any condition first rather than having a "slash and burn" approach. For instance, what if Bailey, the child making the dresses, is simply a boy who wants to wear dresses? What if Bailey is gay? Why not simply tell Bailey that it's okay to be a boy who wants to make and wear dresses? Why does wanting to make and wear dresses make you a girl?
I am an XX-chromosome heterosexual woman who despises wearing dresses. According to the twisted TRA logic, I must actually be a man because I don't like to wear dresses. After all, wearing dresses is a girly thing, amirite? I don't wear makeup either, never mind that one of the reasons I don't wear makeup is because it causes my eczema to flare up like nobody's business. Yep, totally a dude!
So much of this stuff echoes conversion therapy, except instead of trying to zap the gay out of someone's brain with shock treatments or trying to "pray away the gay," they are telling people that "you aren't gay, you were born into the wrong body. Instead of being a gay guy, you're actually a heterosexual woman who was born into a man's body. Now, all you have to do is sign up for surgery and a lifetime of hormone treatments."
